Switching on the (Silver) Light for Enterprises
By Navot @ 8:35 AM :: 1670 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Announcments, Talk of the day, Silverlight
Silverlight applications up and running fast, how does Windows Forms sound to you?
The Visual WebGui (VWG) 'on-server' web paradigm has now been implemented for Microsoft Silverlight. It simplifies Silverlight line of business (LOB) development with a proven 90% cut in development time while it empowers it as a GUI for LOB applications.
Gizmox, the company behind the Visual WebGui (VWG) open source platform, has been cooperating with Microsoft in the development of VWG server-empowered Silverlight. A fully functional Beta version will be released beginning of July 2008.
Now, VWG SDK can be used for rapid development of fully blown, data-centric, enterprise-level Microsoft Silverlight applications.

White paper: On –Server AJAX, a paradigm shift that optimizes AJAX and now Silverlight for enterprise's usage
By Navot @ 2:08 AM :: 1144 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Talk of the day, Silverlight
The evolution of the web closely resembles the evolution of desktop computing moving from the age of “dumb” terminals or the mainframe computing paradigm into the client server computing paradigm, into a new paradigm shift called On Server AJAX and now SILVERLIGHT computing.
The move to AJAX / SILVERLIGHT has left enterprises with no adequate solutions for security concerns, cost effective development cycles, and support for complex interactions and options for off-line operability.
On Server AJAX / SILVERLIGHT offers revolutionary solutions to those concerns and needs.

NEW! White Paper: Visual WebGui - The ROI of Citrix but without the Limitations
By Navot @ 2:28 AM :: 4961 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Technical, Talk of the day
Introduction

We are frequently asked if Visual WebGui (VWG) is not just another Citrix look-alike. Nothing could be further than the truth, for Citrix and VWG offer very different solutions to business requirements that turn out to be far from identical.
There is, of course, a reason behind the question. This paper sets out to disperse the ambiguity and make it quite clear what VWG really is. Interested? Read on.
Why do People Liken VWG to Citrix?
At first sight, one could be forgiven for thinking Citrix and VWG target the same need. They both offer a rapid route to deploying a browser-based business application, they both offer a desktop application user experience, they both allow multi-user access and, perhaps the most significant common ground of all, they both share the concept of a central server to run the mainline data-centric application software.
However, the similarities largely stop there. The following paragraphs explain, in simple terms, the similarities and differences to make it quite clear which of the two technologies are right for your project.

By Navot @ 12:08 PM :: 704 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Talk of the day

Modische Kombination: Visual WebGui mit Silverlight
By Navot @ 12:05 PM :: 765 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Talk of the day

MVP Mike McIntyre: Visual Web Gui is an open source product for porting .NET Windows Forms applications to the web

It is used to create ASP.NET web applications with a very AJAX like experience - without the AJAX programming hassle.

It may be worth it to you to give it a try. Though it's little rough around the edges at this point, this product can be used today to produce web applications from .NET Windows Forms projects. And - the developer is rapidly improving the product each month.

It's easy to get started and it to produce useful web applications. I've been playing around with it for about a week and have already created two small web applications for IT management.

The process is straight-forward:

1. Download and install the free Visual Web Gui Visual Studio project templates.

2. Create a Visual Web Gui project. This is a Visual Studio Windows Forms project.

3. Build out the Windows Froms application.

4. Compile.

5. Run result in web browser.

6. Deploy to web server.

MVP Hayden: It looks to be bringing drag-and-drop desktop development to web
By Navot @ 11:28 AM :: 925 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Technical, Talk of the day, Silverlight

It looks to be bringing drag-and-drop desktop development to web applications, and apparently the performance is pretty awesome. (Trackback).

The demonstrations and screen casts I have seen on Visual WebGui are pretty intriguing. Visual WebGui's tagline is “bringing AJAX and Silverlight to enterprises”. It looks to be bringing drag-and-drop desktop development to web applications, and apparently the performance is pretty awesome.

If it's as good as it looks, it could be a time-saver for Microsoft-based corporate developers
By host @ 3:31 AM :: 895 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Commercial, Talk of the day, Silverlight

Obviously this is a Microsoft-based corporate solution: it uses Visual Studio, ASP.net, Silverlight, WinForms etc. Obviously there are dozens of Ajax frameworks for Web developers. But this looks like a relatively simple way for corporations to knock out Vista-style Web apps on their existing Microsoft platform.

"First, this product is the best thing since sliced bread.  It seems to address every pain point we'd had over the years...we can actaully enjoy developing again.   So, obviously I'm eager to take it for a test spin....

(config aside....I still can't believe how great of a product this is!!  All of the multi-billion dollars assets of microsoft couldn't figure this out...and you guys did!  You guys might change the web more than Silverlight + ASP.NET combinded.)

Cheers,
Mike
