CLARIFICATION - VWD Express - New Versions of VWG

So just to clarify -

We, as a community, can now use Visual Web Developer Express WITH a designer, for free?

Does this include ALL future versions of VWG?

I just want to make sure that we have NO MORE SURPRISES going forward.

Version 6.4, 6.5, 6.6....7.1....8.2...etc, will ALWAYS be FREE to the community to use with Visual Web Developer Express?

I just need to wrap my head around this.

And once again, the most practical, everyday difference between VS Pro and VWD Express is the loss of using integrated source control?  Other than that, there should be no real differences?

Thanks again Guy.  I know this is a hectic day for your guys esp with the community response.

Re: CLARIFICATION - VWD Express - New Versions of VWG

 Hi Danny,

Yes pretty hectic but we predicted it as there is allot of explanation to do.

YES!!!!! and you can quote me on it, there will always be an express version with a designer in it and it will contain all the SDK  positbilites as in the full community SDK version. We will not remove other features... no surprises ahead we adopted a familiar concept one that can be found in many respectable companies such as Adobe (FLEX) and we even extended it to provide a way to still work with the designer freely.

The express edition has less features but in terms of supporting production it is fully functional and provides sufficient support for most low budget projects. The enhanced productivity of the full Visual Studio can still be used on the non Visual WebGui development as they can live side by side.

We believe it is a fair deal which provides a valid way to keep on developing Visual WebGui with its design time advantages. Of course this is meant to create a difference between non paying and paying developers which will provide a reason to buy Visual WebGui.

So to sum things up... no more surprises are planed down the road with the exception of the new and exciting features (Chrome / Safari / Netscape and friends are already running in our labs and will be part of 6.4 and lots exciting new capabilities which will enhance theme-ing and customization to a level that everyone can use) that we plan to ship and the stability which we plan to provide.

Cheers,
Guy

Re: CLARIFICATION - VWD Express - New Versions of VWG

 Thanks Guy :-)

Sorry to drive you crazy...you know we're all just a bit "mashuga" this morning :-).

One last tiny, tiny, tiny clarification (please don't get upset with me!)

The ability to use Chrome, and the new UI enhancements you are planning, or even one day Flash, those also will always be available Free?

Thank you, and thank you for being so patient this morning.  Really, really appreciate it.

Thanks!

-Danny

Re: CLARIFICATION - VWD Express - New Versions of VWG

 Hi Danny,

I am here to serve... and clarification is what I serve today...

Yes the most new enhancements will be available also in the free versions...  I guess that there will be from time to time features that will be separated to a different product or only in the commercial but the most common which will provide the wide adoption of Visual WebGui will be also in the free version.

Cheers,
Guy

Hi Danny & Guy -

Please correct me if I'm wrong... but I highly doubt a Flash presentation layer would be free.  The VWG Silverlight presentation layer is not free.  Right now it is only included in the VWG Professional Studio (still not free) because the Silverlight layer is in BETA.  However, once the Silverlight layer is out of BETA, it will be yet another thing you will need to purchase.
