6.4B1 screen processing time

Hi,

I´m having the impression that version 6.4B1 displays the hourglass a lot more and for longer periods even when simple events are occurring, such as clicking on the dropdown of a datetimepicker to display the calendar and other events when a trip to the server doens´t seem necessary.

Also, it appears to me that in some of these cases,if I hide the browser window behind another window and then show it again, the hourglass disappears much faster in a similar way as in older versions of vb it was much faster to add lots of items to a listbox by hiding it and then showing it again.

Is it possible that any change made to 6.4B1 ended up making the browser to need a heavier screen processing time?

Thanks,

Lufe

Re: 6.4B1 screen processing time

Hi Lufe,

Thank you for your report.

Within 6.4 beta 1 there are a few major changes that are specifically meant to improve the responsiveness and performance in many levels. However, what you are describing seems to us like specific scenarios that in which there might be still minor bugs causing the system to perform unnecessary roundtrips back to the server.

We will appreciate a sample demo app that shows as many such scenarios as possible so we can refer to those cases more specifically.

Kind Regards,
Itzik Spitzen

Re: 6.4B1 screen processing time

Hi Itzik

I have found this to be the case with the datagridview.

Any updates to the grid cause the timer icon to appear. This is partly because certain events are firing multiple times for each update.

Hope this helps

Ewan

Re: 6.4B1 screen processing time

Hi Itzik,

Thanks for your answer. I´ve been trying to reproduce the scenarios in a simple application without success. Anyway, I sent a sample video to support of what happens when I perform the same simple task in my application two times. On the first I wait till the progress indicator disappears on its own and it takes aroung 1 minute. On the second, I perform the same simple task and then display the windows explorer window and hide it again...The progress indicator is already gone in less than 5 seconds.

I know a video is not the best help in tracing a bug,but still it may give you some ideas of what maybe happening. I´ll keep trying to isolate a simple scenario...

Thanks,

Lufe

Re: 6.4B1 screen processing time

 Ewan and Lufe,

Thank you very much for reporting, we will use the information and samples you provided to check and fix whatever is wrong there, and I'm sure those are mostly if not all small fixes.

Ewan, your claim about events that are raised multiple times makes sense and will be diagnosed too.

Kind Regards,
Itzik Spitzen
