VWG Application Modularity
Modified By trilogic on 12/17/2010 2:33:17 PM)

I have been working my way through the catalog example which is a great example of VWG.  I am left with the question of building a similar application but with enforcing a strict modularity.  Something like:

  1. applications available to the catalog are within individual subfolders.
  2. resources needed by the applications are entirely within that applications subfolder.
  3. applications may be dynamically discovered and added to the system.

I'm still relatively new to VWG and do not know if I am being overly ambitious here but I have only 26 days left on my trial edition before I need to produce a decent proof of concept for my higher ups.  I'd much rather use VWG to build Intranet apps than ASP.NET + Ajax Toolkit.

I'm working in C#, VWG 6.4 for .NET 3.5 and have been working in C# a very long time.

I'd appreciate any and all comments, thank you!

Re: VWG Application Modularity

Not exactly sure of your full requirements, but we have developed an APaaS capability (a factory for creating SaaS solutions) for data intensive VWG apps that is largely click and flick.

The overall system sits on top of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Team Foundation Server and of course VWG.

This APaaS capability has been used on various projects over the past few years and is ready for outside beta testers to help with ruggedising it for a broader release.

Perhaps have a look at http://eziadmin.com and if it looks promising then I can set you up as a beta user on a test server for you to try it out (via Remote Desktop and the Configurator and Control Panel VWG apps).

Ultimately you would be able to set the entire system up inside your organisation, should you decide to use it.

Although I don't want to put a price on it just yet, pricing will be very competitive.

The front end of the EziAdmin website will undergo some significant changes in the next short while to better explain the key benefits for developers.

Some of the documentation is still being worked on, happy to explain anything

Andrew

Re: VWG Application Modularity

Well, I was able to recreate the main form of the catalog application's but I created it as a user control instead of a main form and added some popups.  I was not able to add any functionality that would impress management. before my trial license expired.

I tried switching to VWG for VIsual Web Developer 2008 on Virtual Hardware and I followed all the steps required to get this running but none of the project tempates show up in that environment - that's frustrating.

Re: VWG Application Modularity

Hi,

Can you confirm that you have installed "Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition" and all it's service packs, and then you have installed Visual WebGui Express Studio for VS2008 (NET 3.5) downloadable from here ?

And you installed the Visual WebGui Express Studio after you fully installed and patched the VS2008 Web Developer 2008 Express ?
