The New Emperors Clothes - Abuse of Web Technology

I was recently compelled to post a rant about the sorry state of web development. You can read my codeproject article here.

I think this is a great opportunity for products like VWG. The industry needs a solution to the growing mess which is HTML/XAML/CSS/Javascript/JQuery/Rest/JSON/JSONP and client-side business logic implemented in unmaintainable script everywhere.

I'm a bit concerned that it is taking you so long to get the full HTML5 and mobile compatible product out the door. What are the current deadlines?

Re: The New Emperors Clothes - Abuse of Web Technology

I would agree, not neccessarily with the rant, but I did place a reminder to revisit VWG in February to check on their HTML5 version.

I am happy to see that Pali, and Ori are still alive and well at VWG.

I am quite confused about the stagnent progress of an awesome platform.

Can someone update the HTML5 roadmap so that I can set another snooze alarm?

Ron

Hi Garry,

I do agree with every single word of your codeproject article !
Strange to say, most of these people are even extremely proud of their work.
If you try to explain the difference between a web page and a web application, they claim it doesn't exist.

Best regards,
Thomas

Re: The New Emperors Clothes - Abuse of Web Technology

Hi Ron,

Sorry for the late response, I just bumped into your post and I think you should know that we are working hard now to meet pure HTML5 standard document type and complete the mobile capabilities.

Stay tuned, exciting things are about to be released in the HTML5 platform ahead of us.

In addition, I must say that 6.4.0 release d is a very large step forward in terms of many additional exciting capabilities of VWG such as DGV enhancements like grouping, hierarchies and filters and a much more capable Ribbon bar...

By all means, I don't think VWG is stagnant, we make very good progress almost every day, and 6.4.0d will show that very soon...

Hope this helps,

Best,
Itzik Spitzen
