HTML5 Drag 'n Drop

I know that VWG either already does or will support HTML5.  I also know that the HTML5 spec is a long way from completion but there are pieces of it that are done.  One of the parts that is getting a lot of buzz lately is the Drag 'n Drop spec - the ability to drag a file from the client to the browser and have the browser application recognize and be able to deal with the file.  Box.net now supports this, as well as GMail (for attaching files).  Having this capability in VWG would, in my estimation, be it's absolutely best feature.  We are building a document management system using VWG and it's hard to stress how awesome having this functionality would be.  Our company would be willing to financially support this feature.  I understand that currently only Chrome and FF 3.6+ really support it well enough for use but IE 9 will when it is out of beta.  Having VWG well-positioned for this feature when it is fully supported by all major browsers would surely put it at the top of the RIA heap (if it isn't there already).

Re: HTML5 Drag 'n Drop

Hi Dave,

We do plan to lead the HTML5 move as a replacement to Silverlight and to follow Microsoft strategy on this. We are working out VWG roadmap on this move these days along with VWG mobile strategy.

We have checked your Drag & Drop HTML5 based request, and it seems like a feature that we can provide in short time. Please contact me through email and we will work out the delivery details. navot.pled at gizmox dot com.

Thanks for your support

Navot

Hello Dave,

If you could refer me to a fully working pure HTML or ASP.NET that enables this drag and drop feature of HTML5 I will be more than willing to create a Visual WebGui code-snippet of a Visual WebGui Custom Control that will enable this in Visual WebGui (based on that code).

Re: HTML5 Drag 'n Drop

Hello Dave,

I did some researching of my own on the subject  the HTML5 Drag and Drop feature and the HTML5 File API.
This doesn't look like something I can condense into the normal time-frame of creating a code-snippet based on pure HTML code, though it would be nice if I could.
Happily you can still contact Navot to the e-mail address specified earlier, and request that this will be implemented and fully tested for you by our development team.

I will personally be very happy to see this as an integrated component of the Visual WebGui framework.
