Absolute beginner - How can I edit the Form in VB .NET?

Hi,

I have just started my new job with a company which is using .NET technology. My role is to look after it's Visual Basic programs. Some programs are written in VB .NET using Visual WebGui. I have no idea what it is doing. With the normal VB programs, I can look at the form by clicking on Visual Designer.  With VWG,  when I click on frmLogin.vb, I can see both frmLogin.Designer.vb and frmLogin.resx. When I click on the first vb file, I can only see a blank page.

When I run the project, I can see the web page displayed in my localhost. This is correct.

The only senior people who knows VWG has left the company and I have nobody to turn to.

Are there any documentation that I can read to understand what VWG is doing to VB.NET?

How do I edit the form? Thanks.

Regards,

Jerry

Hi Jerry

you need to double-click frmlogin.vb in the solution explorer to view it in the designer

if when you double-click it, it still opens up blank try closing all open documents in the designer first

cheers james

Re: Absolute beginner - How can I edit the Form in VB .NET?

Hi James,

I followed your instructions.

I closed everything. I then double-clicked frmLogin.vb. A blank form is displayed. This is the problem I have been encountering.

There are some other forms as well. When I double-click them, they all show blank form.

When I right click frmLogin.vb and choose "View Designer", it gives me the same blank screen. When I choose "View Code", it works ok and gives me program codes. I do not know what is happening. Thanks.

Regards,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

have you tried creating a new VWG Web Application in VS?

Does your form open in the designer and can you add new vwg controls to the form?

cheers james

Re: Absolute beginner - How can I edit the Form in VB .NET?

Hi Jerry,

In addition to James questions, can you check the exact version of Visual WebGui you have installed (via Control Panel / Programs) and see if it states "With Sources" in it's name. If it does, you have to follow the instructions here and reference a few extra Gizmox assemblies.

Hope this helps,

Palli
