VWG Professional Edition

I installed the VWG Professional Edition, during the install process I was directed to un-install any previous version of VWG.  I un-installed the SDK and Catalog example and then installed the Professional Edition with source.

After the installation, it appears the only thing I got was the VS 2008 templates and the source, no SDK's were installed (that is, none of the VWG class libraries exist in either the GAC or in the Gizmox folder).

I cannot re-install the SDK without un-installing the VWG Professional Edition.  Is this by design, was the installation faulty or did I miss some install options (I selected typical install).

I will un-install the VWG Professional Edition and re-install the SDK's for now.  I don't know if installing with the source the assumption is that it would be my responsibility to rebuild the entire VWG environment.

Thanks, Kenn

Re: VWG Professional Edition

Hi Kenn,

Your assumption is correct. It is expecting you to change and compile.

You should uninstall and select the no source version of the SDK and then select  "Complete".

If you do not have Silverlight 3 installed the installer does not install the VWG Silverlight.

Re: VWG Professional Edition

 Thanks Jay,

That is exactly what I will do.  I have full intention of purchasing a license for the product.  I believe that VWG gives me the kind of leverage I need to be able to build Web applications the way I feel they should be built and creates an environment I think I would be comfortable in supporting my customers.  By that, I mean I can concentrate on supporting their business needs instead of spending the majority of time supporting an infrastructure.

I will probably bite the bullet and upgrade my VS products to a fully supported version.  I have been more than happy with the open source tools available, especially SharpDevelop and the MS Express editions.  It is too bad that Gizmox has not decided to support templates for SharpDevelop (at least a Community Edition version).  I would hope that the Community Edition being open source would support other open source projects as well as commercial products.

Again, thanks for your help, I find the response in these forums very impressive.

Kenn

Re: VWG Professional Edition

Hello Kenn,

Regarding the problem you reported with your installation, it is very probably the result of installing VWG with a machine user without full Administrator privilages.
We require this premission level and even display a warning about this during installation.

Please log in with an administrator account, locate the *.msi file you used to install the Professional Studio with, right click on it and select "Run as" select an administrator user and run the setup. Use it to uninstall the VWG Professional Studio and do the same again after uninstallation completes, to reinstall the VWG Professional Studio, again with administrator privilages.

Please confirm if this fixed the problem.

Regarding us not installing our templates on SharpDevelop, as far as we know, this is not currently possible with the current implementation of that application. If you know otherwise, please let us know.
