Is it possible to get a textbox's text value on double click (w/o fiddeling with the sources) ?

(The problem is that the first time you doubleclick the textbox, the text property is empty)

Yeah I know about the issue (which was created back in 2008(!) 

I was wondering if there's a workaround to this w/o going into themes/custom controls.

 I want to open a popup window with a larger textbox(including the entire textbox's text) for easier editing.
