Re: New User Verification

Hello Derek,

This is not really a VWG question...
Even though, this is what you can do:
1. When sending the e-mail save whatever session and context variables you need to a Database + of course a logged-in true state, per user.
2. On Global.asax Session_end you will change the logged-in state of the user in the Database to false.
3. When the e-mail is sent the user can close the browser window he/she used.
4. The link from the e-mail will cause the receiving server to load the logged-in state of the user.
5. If the logged-in state is true, all the session and context variables will be loaded and will be used to update the server state in the current session, including Session.IsLoggedOn = true; .

Please reply if you are unclear on this scenario.

Ori Cohen

Re: New User Verification

On # 3, do I just simply give the user a message that he can close the browser if he wants to, explaining that the link the user gets will load the web site again (this is just for sign up purposes obviously).

On # 1, if the user is inside the site and then opens another window, the second window seems to try to catch up to what is happening in the first window, but I guess variables can get all confused because if I really did around in the site, and go back and forth, I can get the site into a very unpredictable state. Is this just a side effect I will not be able to solve? Is there some what to detect this? I guess if I used ebay, for example, and was in the middle of a purchase or a payment, and tried to go to another window, it probably would not allow that in "many" instances, such as a payment process. How could I do the same?

Re: New User Verification

Hi Derek,

On #1, This is the result you get when your browser is using the same session to browse the same mainform in multiple tabs/browser windows in Visual WebGui and I don't know of any direct way within VWG to handle that, and I currently know of no workaround.

Re: New User Verification

Should I leave this open for anyone else to take a stab at it?

Re: New User Verification

Hi Derek,

We can't leave anything open in the commercial forums. Must respond within the time frame.

All I can think of are just ideas, which I don't really know if will work unless I test them. They are also all 6.4 related, so I'm not sure if they will help you, and I'm not even sure that if they work, they would be a best practice as they include some redirects.

But, I will be happy to ask around, and if I can find something that might help, I or we will add it here.

If you agree, you don't have to answer.. we'll just respond here if we have any info.
