Using Aurigma In 6.3.xxx
Modified By derekmhart@yahoo.com on 3/8/2010 5:58:04 PM)

Still have not moved to 6.4 because the final release is not completed.

1) What is the current roadmap date for the final 6.4 release?

2) I want to implement the Aurigma control... in your sample you use 6.4 to implement it:
http://www.visualwebgui.com/Developers/Resources/Tutorials/tabid/365/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/777/How-to-implement-Visual-WebGui-custom-control.aspx

I want to use this in 6.3.xxx - before I go down this path, I would like to know if I have a good chance at success by just using the control wrapper in 6.3.xxx - in the sample a lot more was discussed on the client resources... I am just looking for a default way to use the control, but it seems that this control might force me to 6.4. Please give detailed information if possible on what I am trying to accomplish.

I tried this and right at the beginning I get an error of "Height value should be in pixel units" in AspControlBoxBase.cs at the line:
if (objHostedControl != null)
Any Ideas?

OK, a completely different approach here. What about using an asppagebox to use this control? I just created an aspx page and dropped the control onto it, and dropped the asppagebox onto a VWG popup form, and placed this aspx page as the path. The control showed up perfectly. This may be the way to go. I have had hours of difficulty getting wrapped controls to work perfectly. So now how do I use the events this way? Should I pass the parameters that are needed into the asppagebox, and just use the events as I normally would inside an asp.net app? Any particular tricks to know about to send info back and forth between VWG and the asppagebox? It looks as if I have all the events I normally would inside an asp.net application, but I am wondering how this will all stay secure. The VWG application will be hosted inside HTTPS, and the asppagebox will only be used inside a VWG form obviously, so there will be no URL that the user could access. From this description, does it sound like the aspx page will also be inside of HTTPS?

Lots of different questions in here... please touch on all of them if you can.

Thanx!

Re: Using Aurigma In 6.3.xxx

Hello Derek,

Regarding VWG v6.4:
Visual WebGui v6.4 Beta2 will add substancial stability and a major performance boost to VWG v6.4.
As of this moment, already 153 known bugs have been recognized as fixed in this version.
We plan to stop working on VWG v6.4 Beta2 sometime in the next two weeks.
When this happens we will release this version to our QA team and the Beta-Testers group for intensive testing.
We will fix the critical bugs that will be found and a second release will be created and sent for testing. This will continue until we get a 'go ahead' from our QA and Beta-Testers. When this happens, we will release the version oficially to the community.

The next VWG v6.4 version to be worked on is VWG v6.4 RC0 - our first release candidate. This version will be released when we feel happy enough with the version and agree that it is stable enough to be called a Release.
The community will probably still find bugs in the system and we will add those reports to the issue tracker and produce a second RC if needed. If not the following version will be the official Release verison.

Regarding the Aurigma control:
There is no technical problem with wrapping a control in VWG v6.3.x as the wrapper mechnism behind the scenes is almost identical in VWG v6.3 and VWG v6.4.
The article you referenced does not make use of the wrapper tool though. It uses a Visual WebGui Custom Control to embed the 3rd party control into the application.
As this article focuses on how to do that in VWG v6.4 it is not relevant to you and you need to use this article here for reference.
I do not think that using the AspPageBox is the best way to go on this, but if you decide to use it anyway, you can use Ryan's UrlComponent as introduced on this page here. It will allow you to do what you need.

Hello Derek,

Allow me to apologies on behalf of Ori, I believe he misunderstood some of your questions..
As to the shipping of 6.4 Beta 2 and RC – Ori description is quite detailed and accurate, however he misses the point. Beta 2 WILL BE SHIPPED 17 / 3 / 10 and RC is scheduled to be shipped a month after that – 3rd week of April 2010
Hope the answer help you make your decision.
Thanks

Re: Using Aurigma In 6.3.xxx

Ori,

Can you tell me why you don't think the asppagebox is the way to go on this. I cannot foresee problems that you know about. Can I stay secure in doing that? It will be embedded in a VWG popup obviously, so no URLs will be exposed to the user.

Derek

Re: Using Aurigma In 6.3.xxx

Hello Derek,

The first thing that comes into mind when you use the AspPageBox instead of an integral control such as a Custom Control or a wrapper, is that you have much less communication and interoperability between the two applications running side-by-side (VWG and ASP.NET).

Security can be affected here as you are exposing the AspPageBox content page as a start-up page and so users can surf directly to it if they know the path (URL).
Even though the page is in a pop-up, if a user will want to find the URL, it would be very possible by looking at the page source or VWG client XML and looking for it.
If this is not a problem for you than this is not an issue at all.
