Link.Open webcal://ics

I would like to know how I can use link.open with a url such as "http://partnersync.dynacal.com/arlingtonschools/webcal://ICS2.dynacal.com/calendars/arlingtonschools_SV256917.ics"

*Note: this link doesn't work but the syntax of it is correct.

When I run this using a "http://ics2...." it launches correctly.

I need to use webcal:// because outlook likes wecal:// to import ics calendrer feeds.

Thanks.

Re: Link.Open webcal://ics

Hi Shawn,

This is probably not the best place to ask such question as by first impression it's not Visual WebGui related directly, except maybe for the fact that you will open that link from within a Visual WebGui application.

I also must admit, that I would have said this url was not valid, as you are using both "http://" and "webcal://" as a part of the same Url. According to Wikipedia article here, this is  not a valid option.

If you insist this link is indeed valid, I would suggest that you try seeking information in a more outlook oriented forums where this type of link would be discussed.

Hi again Shawn,

To further add to my last reply, then Link.Open("webcal://somepath/something.ics"), you are using and URI (webcal) which is not an standard URI according to WikiPedia for instance. This means that it would probably be dependent upon browsers if they support it and how they support it. See for instance these articles here and here and here for Chrome protocol handlers.

Hope this helps,

Palli

Re: Link.Open webcal://ics

Man, it is hard to believe that I could actually put such a badly formed question out there.  Let me restate please...

First, Outlook wants the ICS feed url to be webcal://www.website.com/filename.ics.

When I use Link.Open("webcal://www.website.com/filename.ics") visual web gui creates the link as http://www.visualwbguiapp.com/webcal://.....

I want to be able to create the url as  webcal://www.website.com/filename.ics.

With this new take on my question, i believe this is a VWG Link.Open issue.  If Link.Open can't handle this what are my options?

Thanks.

Hi Shawn,

I must admit that your original request made me scratch my head a bit. This new format is much better

I opened a new tracker entry on this problem. Please view it here and follow up on our progress.

Please make sure you view the workaround suggestion within that entry.
