Unable to cast object of type System.Windows.Forms.Panel to type System.Windows.Forms.Form
Modified By andymc on 3/17/2009 8:03:53 PM)

Hi,

Have just unintalled 6.2.4 rebooted and installed 6.3.4 after purchasing the product.

Did the activation thing, but getting this error message when opening just about any form.

We have a base set of Form objects from which all other Forms are derived. The base forms display ok, but the inherited ones don't. Even the derived Forms in the project that contains the base Forms  won't open - but only display the above error.

Have tried in several solutions but the same problem.

Searched the entire solution and we don't use any Panel controls anywhere, we don't use any System.Windows.Forms namespace classes, only VWG. Perhaps it is an issue with the designer integration?

Everything worked fine until today.

Andrew

Re: Unable to cast object of type System.Windows.Forms.Panel to type System.Windows.Forms.Form

Hi Andrew,

You shouldn't have System.Windows.Forms either !

After version upgrade of VWG, you should perform the following steps to make sure everything gets updated:

1. Shut down VS if it's running
2. Go to 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\<Your relevant framework>\Temporary ASP.NET Files, delete all Visual webGui files.
3. Reset IIS if app will not be run within VS Dev webserver
4. Open sample application
5. Delete obj and bin folders (and ClientBin if SilverLight deploy)
6. Delete all Gizmox references
7. Reference the Gixmox DLL's, which now should be correct version
8. Temporarily set "Disable Caching" in General tab of VWG integration (remember setting back if production app)
9. Increase private version of project
10. Clean
11. Recompile
12. Run in Dev Web server

After you have done all that. Open one of your problem forms and check to make sure you are not missing an import of Gizmox.WebGui.Forms (imports in vb.net, similar in C#, might be using...).

Re: Unable to cast object of type System.Windows.Forms.Panel to type System.Windows.Forms.Form

Hi Palli,

Did all that, but it didn't have any effect. Same error message in the VS 2008 designer.

Can open Forms that are directly derived from Gizmox.WebGUI.Forms.Form but not forms with those forms as their parent.

I will do up the most simple app and send it in.

It might have something to do with the IFormFactory rearchitecting - although can't be 100% sure about that.

We have been able to deploy apps to production with the new version, just an issue in the VS Designer.

Hi Andrew,

What Gizmox DLL's do you have referenced on your project ?

Forms and Common (.NET 3.5 source code folder versions) in all the projects, except for the one with the wgx form that has Server as well.

Not running Silverlight, just the bare bones config.
