Re: Cannot Install 6.4

Hello Derek,

There are a lot of things going on here to let me take this step by step please:

1.
SVN sources and a VWG installation cannot work together. If you have an installation and want to use sources on the same machine, you'll have to give up one of them.
If you decide to give up your installation, after you remove it, make sure you have no Gizmox.WebGUI.* assemblies in your GAC.

2.
To be able to use VWG v6.4 from SVN sources and compile them, you need to first add a Visual WebGui directory + contents to the MSBuild directory you have in your Program Files directory.
We already have this Visual WebGui directory in SVN, and it can be retreived through this SVN URI:
http://72.55.165.182/svn/Public/Build/Gizmox

3.
From your e-mails I understand you have problems with your VWG - Visual Studio integration package.
I am not sure what caused these problems.
To fix this, i need you to
a: Run a Repair type installation on all the VWG installations on this machine.
b: Remove all the VWG installations from this machine.
c: Run the "Devenv.exe /resetskippkgs" command on both VS2005 and VS2008.
d: Reinstall whatever VWG installations you need.

4.
The VWG v6.4 Preview4 was released on October 20th 2009.
Since then the VWG v6.4 Beta1 is the development version of VWG v6.4.
As you suggest, it is not very stable at the moment is nothing on VWG v6.4 Beta1 is tested yet, appart from the regular per-issue testing that we do before we commit any issue fix.
This version is definitely more complete though than VWG v6.4 Preview4.

With the amount of questions you raised here and in the e-mails I must have missed someone. Please help me here and raise those questions there again.

Re: Cannot Install 6.4

Hello Royce,

I am sorry, but I cannot see how the problem you experiecned is related to the various problems Derek is reporting in this thread.
I may have missed your point in your e-mails though.
If you still encounter any problem that is relevant to this thread, please feel free to contribute here. If not, please start a new thread on the subject of your interest and we will be more than happy to assist you there.

Regarding the e-mail, I replied to all the e-mails I got from you.
Please be aware that handing support requests very often takes more than a single day to process. Some times much longer.
We have over 100,000 developers using Visual WebGui, and supporting you all is not an easy task...
We truely do our best with what we have, in order to give you the best possible service and support that we can.

Re: Cannot Install 6.4

Please give more feedback on this item:

To be able to use VWG v6.4 from SVN sources and compile them, you need to first add a Visual WebGui directory + contents to the MSBuild directory you have in your Program Files directory.
We already have this Visual WebGui directory in SVN, and it can be retreived through this SVN URI:

1) Where do I make the directory? What do you mean "+ contents to the MSBuild..."

2) What do I call it?

3) What are the procedures exactly? And does it somehow add the VWG project type to Visual Studio?

Re: Cannot Install 6.4

Hi Derek,

The procedure is detailed in this Preview 3 announcement here. View the last paragraph in the first post in the thread.

To repeat in the context Ori replied before in this thread, then the Visual WebGui directory Ori referes to should be called Gizmox according to the announcement. So what you do is the following:

  • Ensure you have this folder (which you should have already): C:\Program Files\MSBuild
  • Create a folder there and name it Gizmox
  • Right click on that folder and select SVN Checkout (assuming Tortouise SVN client)
  • The checkout path should be the one given: http://72.55.165.182/svn/Public/Build/Gizmox

That's it.

Please be warned again, that current 6.4.0Beta1 is our trunk version, meaning it's our active development branch version. There is no guarantee that it does compile at all times, and the fixes made there are not all tested. So, expect problems every now and then, and don't be surprised if you can't compile it.

For practice, to make sure you have got the SVN sources correctly in place, I would suggest that you SVN checkout the P4 branch for starters. Get everything compiling and up and running and only then switch to the Beta1 trunk branch and see if you can get it to compile.

The P4 branch is a released branch's version, so I am sure it will save you a lot of frustration to get that version compiling first.

Hope this helps,

Palli
