I tried quite a few things but had no luck. However a complete uninstall of VWG 6.3.11 and a fresh install of 6.3.14 appears to have done the trick. No idea why, but at least progress has been made.

Glad you got it solved. Your solution indicates either bad case of caching, or corrupt installation.
Either way, it's solved now.
