Designer crashing VStudio on screen saver

Using 6.3.9 (and also 6.4), if Visual Studio is running with a VWG designer window active and my screen saver starts, locking my workstation, upon return to my session (after unlocking the workstation with password) Visual Studio throws errors.

An error dialog appears at the bottom right of my screen but the graphics are so badly damaged that I can't see the text -- only a white dialog with a button in the middle. Clicking it repeatedly re-throws the error until Visual Studio crashes with an option to send the info to Microsoft and a checkbox to restart Visual Studio.

This behavior does not happen if the solution is open and the designer is not active. I had not seen this behavior prior to 6.3.9, either.

Re: Designer crashing VStudio on screen saver

Hi,

Thank you for reporting.

We know of an issue that might be the cause for the problem

http://support.visualwebgui.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=642

Although I must say that I have some serious doubts that this is the cause, however, this issue will be fixed within version 6.4.

You have been explaining that this issue did not occur in previous versions and this immediately lowers the odds for this issue to be the reason. Furthermore, version 6.3.9 does not contain any new designer/VS integration related issues changes comparing to 6.3.8.

I was thinking that it would be helpful if you provided the following details

* The previous VWG version number you have been working with (before upgrading to 6.3.9).
* The error message you get in VS in this thread.
* I will very much appreciate it if you could re-check this issue with the previous version you have worked with, that of course, if you have a straight forward reproducing path...

Looking forward to any additional info you can provide.

Kind Regards,
Itzik Spitzen

Re: Designer crashing VStudio on screen saver

I've taken a few screenshots of how bad my display looks when the error occurs and can mail those to you on request. It seems that VStudio recovers a bit when I close down the personal web server(s) that show up in the tray area, but it doesn't come back.

I haven't used VWG for some time, waiting for the package to get tighter before comitting to purchasing, and have just purchased in anticipation of the changes that will occur in 6.4. So before I go through the exercise of downloading, uninstalling, and reinstalling to find the last version that doesn't exhibit this, I tried to capture the invisible text that appears in the error dialog from VStudio and was able to do so. The error is:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
Cannot access a disposed object.

Object name: 'DesignerFrame'.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Does that help enough, or should I start working backwards to find a version that doesn't exhibit this behavior?

Thanks.

Re: Designer crashing VStudio on screen saver

Some additional info: it turns out that the designer doesn't have to be visible for the behavior to occur; if it ever was visible when the screen saver (or workstation lock) kicked in, the problem still happens. I was able to reproduce it with only source code for a VWG form being the only tab that was open.
