Re: [6.4b - or really any version] Internet Explorer + DataGridView - Kaboom!

Hi Dan,

I have got some update for you on the F11 issue with IE. There is a work in progress now to standardize the layout mechanism across all browser types. What this means is that the HTML DOCTYPE will change to a standard one and there should be no "manual" layouting needed for IE any more, the process that hangs IE under certain conditions.

Although I don't have it fully confirmed yet, then my understanding is that this should be included in the next release, which I take for the next stabilization release that we will publish. Whether that means it will be included in both WinWeb and .NETHTML5/JQT I do not know yet.

And no, I don't have a date for that release yet.

To VWG Team:

We are beta testing the VWG 6.4 winweb version of our product, and the biggest show stopper seems to be this browser crash/non-responsiveness when you press F11.

We also see this behavior on zooming - if we hit Ctrl_shift_+ or Ctrl_shift_- the same behavior happens.  Unfortuntely, the touchpad on my laptop seems to trigger zooming with some gestures so this hanging condition is happening quite frequently for me.

Is there any update on this? Will the HTML5 version have this problem?

is there any way to intercept the action in code? (I wouldn't think so...)

Here is a screen shot of the message we get in IE 9 - it asks the user to Recover Web Page.

Thanks in advance,

Mitch

Re: [6.4b - or really any version] Internet Explorer + DataGridView - Kaboom!

 Hi Mitch,

The reason for this is well known as being the recursive layouting triggered in IE when you resize the browser, most notablly when you go to full screen using F11 for instance. I take it that you do not get this problem for other browsers, right ?

In any case, the new DOCTYPE, html, introduced in the .NETHTML5 version (our future framework, combining XSLT and JQT into the same core) will not have this problem. For testers, I took .NETHTML5 and tested F11 in both IE8 and IE9 and it works fine without any apparant hickups.

Hope this helps,

Palli

Re: [6.4b - or really any version] Internet Explorer + DataGridView - Kaboom!

Hey Palli,

This problem manifests only in IE - it seems like IE9 is worse than IE8.   Sadly, 80%+ of our user-base is IE (corporate standard in most places, and alomost all of our clients have locked down PCs so they can't just download and use FF).

I think this issue is almost a show-stopper for us going onto the winweb version.  We have actually encouraged our customers to use F11 to get more screen space. So earlier today, the first thing my main client did while testing was to push F11 - and then crashed her browser - not a good start.

The problem is that if we switch to the NETHTML5 build we lose support for CFEditor.   Is there any timeline on getting that wrapper working on the HTML5 build?

I feel like i am caught between two bad options: have CFeditor support and risk crashing the browser, or having a safe broweser and no CFEditor support.

Your advice is welcome!

Mitch

 Hi Mitch,

I hope you don't really mean CFEditor, and instead you really mean CKEditor. In that case, there should be no problem for you going for .NETHTML5, as I updated CKEditor for .NETHTML5 support the day after I got the first report on it's incompatibility with that version. I have not seen any reports to confirm or complain on that fix, so I assumed it would be working fine.

Please let me know if CKEditor needs further adaption to .NETHTML5.
