Single Language vs. Multiple Languages

As a desktop developer you use a compiled language to create and manipulate a well defined object model. Using the explorer application scenario again, your implementation would include one form file while developing the same application using WebForms will contain multiple files in multiple languages implemented in multiple layers. The complexity differences grow dramatically as the complexity of the application grows presenting a glass ceiling for web developers that is reached very quickly.

Web developers are required to master a lot of stuff and implementing a web application usually requires all of these skills. They have multiple server side pages interacting with multiple client script files and CSS files which are required to work together as a well oiled machine. To spice up their web development task, they also have to use multiple layers which add even more complexity. It is common knowledge that the more application parts you have the more work you will have to put in to develop and maintain your application.
