The new version 6.2 which is expected to be released on Sep. 26th presents an overall facelift and an improved developer experience, as it introduces a new level of integration into Visual Studio, as well as a consolidated installer.

Full Integration into Visual Studio
The new version 6.2 introduces a complete integration into the Visual Studio designer. It allows Visual WebGui projects to be configured within Visual Studio native property pages with no need for manually configuration.

Integration is also improved for Silverlight with the integration of the Silverlight packager in the Visual Studio project's property pages.

The new Visual Studio integration enables Visual WebGui to expose the entire set of desktop development tools exactly as in WinForms that was unreachable before. This integration feature of version 6.2 exposes, for example, the configuration capabilities of data sources that were not available before. In addition, overriding actions is now available through the customized menus, as well as adding new VWG item using the right click on the mouse.

Consolidated Installation Process
The new version also introduces an upgraded installation process which consolidates all Visual WebGui's products, open source installation, documentation and samples into one single step-by-step enhanced experience.

The new installer includes all the Visual WebGui SDK's different .NET versions as well as all of the available commercial extensions. The developers can select the products they would like to install that are presented with a proper licensing explanation. It is also possible to install the open source projects, sample applications and documentation.

The entire installation process is digitally signed with Verisign Certification which prevents security concerns (especially with Windows Vista).

This installer enables a more efficient usage & configuration and solves many issues that were previously raised by Visual WebGui users during installation. In accordance with Visual WebGui business model the opportunity to evaluate the entire solutions suite free of charge before deployment, is provided to our community developers.

New features

  • A more mature version of Silverlight
  • Full compatibility to Windows Vista
  • Customizable Drag & Drop animation in run time
  • DHTML rendering enhancement:
    • Providing faster rendering
    • Enabling multi tab browsing in IE7

Stay tuned for more details about this important release.

Due to the massive change in the level of installation and integration, we would like to make sure that it does work correctly on various machines and configurations, therefore, we would like to take an additional 2 days and release version 6.2 by the end of the day on Thursday, October 2nd 2008.
We are convinced that the process will be appreciated by everyone eventually.

Thank you for understanding and sorry for any inconvenience!
