Testing VWG

Hi Guys,

Here is a very interesting article about testing VWG against other ajax frameworks.

They claim that VWG had about double the performance of the other frameworks, but still appeared slower than the others. Sounds strange!

http://netpl.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

It would be nice to have an experts comments.

I haven't done any performance testing on our VWG apps yet, but our test server only has 500 megs of ram and it still flys and we are using my generic MT.

Regards,

              Alistair

Re: Testing VWG

Hi Alistar,

This test was performed in June 2007 by MVP Mr Wictor Zychla, summeraizing the results, there were a couple of glitches which occurred due to the fact that Wictor did not know how to use the internal optimization mechanisms of VWG and caused a constant replay of the same request. However, the bottom line is that in terms of requests per second and received data (which are the most important parameters) Visual WebGui is an undoubted winner, and I quote (from results section):
"The VWG is an undoubt winner. It did a great job of serving the highest number of requests per second, 422, and is also a clear winner regarding the amount of data sent to and from the server. The only problem with VWG is that it is still in beta version and is not reliable for the time (it still has stability and compatibility problems, let's hope it will get better every other release)."

Please note that:
1. As I previously mentioned, VWG optimization mechanisms were not properly used.
2. The issue with the non-reliable beta version was true to June 2007, but now, more than a year later; VWG is MUCH more mature and reliable!

I hope this will clarify the issue...

Regards,
Itzik Spitzen

Re: Testing VWG

Fantastic Itzik,

Not to mention how easy VWG is to use. Can you give us the references on the optimization techniques?

One optimization technique I am using is static variables. I am using enterprise library caching with a static cache that means that my cache can be on the web server itself instead of in my middle tier, although I have my business object definition caching there as well.

Regards,

             Alistair

Re: Testing VWG
Hi Itzik,

I built a VWG demo, I added some panels only on page and there aren't so much processing code, I have an issue: if I run application on Visual Studio 2008 localhost, ex: localhost:4955, it's ok; but when I use IIS localhost, it's very very slow, it takes me much time to load page. Is it caused by browser? Issue from IIS or my application, or WebGUI. How do I solve that problem?

I used VWG 6.1.3, VS 2008, Win XP SP2. Please show me if you have any idea? Thanks alot.

Regards,
Karen

Re: Testing VWG

Dear Itzik,

Can you tell us more about these optimization techniques? As I said I am using a static for my Enterprise Library cache.

Regards,

             Alistair
