Bring to Front / Send To Back - How do I ?
Hi !

I have my own "base class", which is actually a usercontrol.

Let's just keep it simple and say that my basecontrol class has a treeview that is filling the user controls space from top, left and right, allmost to the botton, so I'm anchoring it top, left and right.

OK, in a derived class I want to (keep it simple again) add a Button in the top right corner. When I do that, the button always dissappears (is Sent To Back). But in this case I want the button to be on top of the control and be visible, both in designer and of course in the browser.

How can I make the button behave?

The menu items in Format/Order/Send to back and Bring to front are inactive in my VWG 6.1.2 NET3.5 VS2008SP1.

I tested the same in Winforms, and then those buttons are active and work as I thought they would.

Maybe there is some different methodology in VWG, but anyway, can anyone tell me how I can get this effect ?

Re: Bring to Front / Send To Back - How do I ?
Hi again !

The Bring To Front / Send To Back menu items are active in WinForms, but they do not have any effect in this case. The button added in the derived class is always on top.

I suspect that's just the case. There is a difference in behaviour in the designer at least, in what order the controls are layered on a class that's inherited from a my UserControl class.

Winforms: A new control added is always "Brought to Front"
VWG: A new control addes is always "Sent to Back"

Any way to get around that ?

Maybe an issue matter ?

Re: Bring to Front / Send To Back - How do I ?
Hi Pali,

I tested the scenario you described on both WinForms and VWG (under VS 2005 and VWG 6.1.3) and noticed the following facts:

1. For the first time a new control is being added to an inherited control through the designer, the “Bring to front” and “Send to back” options are disabled.

2. After saving all classes, building the project and reopening the control’s designer the “Bring to front” and “Send to back” designer options are enabled and seems to be working.

3. After bringing controls to front (through the designer) and saving it – it won’t come out fronted after reopening the designer.

I created a new issue for those matters so you’ll be able to follow it.

Thanks for this information,

Shlomi

Re: Bring to Front / Send To Back - How do I ?
Hi Shlomi,

Thanks for that. It more or less describes the issues I had with it also (under VS2008 and VWG 6.1.2), the difference being that it was never brought to front what ever I did. So if I dropped a button on such a usercontrol, it was actually gone (to the back) and some tricks had to be done to activate and delete it from the control afterwards. Selecting it from the Properties dropdown, and then increasing it's size to exceed the usercontrols size, then I could finally click on it to delete.
