Yes I really do appreciate what you are up against with making complex installs against the moving MS target. However, this is a conceptual/design issue (tying frameworks to products) and I just suspect if you don't address it now you will just dig yourselves deeper in dependency problems.
For me, its no longer an issue now I understand what is happening, although I would like to get rid of VS2005, but it has been pointed out to me that it may "break" my current situation. I don't have time to try it.
