Overview
Computer Integrated Manufacturing Co; Ltd. (CIMCO) specializes in software development and implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Computerized Management Systems (CMMS). CIMCO provides Integrated Business Solutions software packages like ERP and CMMS for small and midsize industries, with comprehensive solution and services.
CIMCO developed a flexible maintenance management system (CMMS) in order to offer major enhancements for managing maintenance activities. The system has been designed for use in a wide range of industries such as manufacturing, hotels, fleet maintenance etc., all of which face similar problems in Maintenance Management.
CIMCO-CMMS is designed with increased user productivity in mind and as a result offers simple to use screens. All data is presented logically making the system easy to understand. Enterprise functions, such as multi language that allows users to switch language instantly between Thai, English, Japanese, Chinese, French, and German.
Business needs
CIMCO needed to migrate its existing CIMCO-CMMS Windows Forms product to the web so it can be run in a browser. It was extremely important to alleviate the need to install any software on the client and to create the software according to the market's preferences which require a modern looking UI which is still easy to use.
Moreover, the system needed to be able to provide fast access to an MS SQL database and to present responsive interface that includes instant changes of languages view for screens and reports.
The Solution
The development team initially started the project with Asp.net, but since most of the team was composed of VB programmers it was a very difficult to get the expected results because of the complexity in developing rich internet applications with Asp.net. It was decided to evaluate other web based solutions and the WinForms-like development of Visual WebGui was chosen as it allowed CIMCO programmers who were experienced in VB to get started on the application much faster than any of the other solutions evaluated.
The team switched to Visual WebGui and started to get the results it was originally seeking in a very short time and with very little adoption required from its team members. "Since we started we have seen some fantastic changes in the product with good support from the Gizmox staff, from the Chief Architect down."
Benefits
By using Visual WebGui CIMCO-CMMS takes advantage of the latest .Net and Ajax technologies for Web applications, allowing users to access their data from anywhere. Basing on Visual WebGui the application provides great flexibility and extensibility and CIMCO plans to add PDA and Dashboard module with the next release.
"Our programmers were experienced in VB with little web experience. By selecting VWG we got the latest .Net technology for Web applications, allowing fast, modern looking software to be designed very rapidly." Said Victor Batchelor, Managing Director.
In addition, CIMCO says that next version will be a Silverlight version which is possible due to the Visual WebGui capability to create different presentation layers from the same source code.
